Charging Ford Electric Cars

Charging Ford EVs

Ford, like most other major car manufacturers, has invested in the development of its own range of electric vehicles. If you own a Ford EV, it is important that you consider the equipment you have for charging it.

To get the most out of your battery and its full charge, you’ll need high-end charging cables and a premium charging point. Relying on poorer quality equipment can lengthen charging times and impact your ability to efficiently and effectively charge your EV.

Charging A Ford EV

When it comes to charging your Ford EV, how long it will take will greatly depend upon the model of Ford EV you have. Currently, Ford offers two commercially available EV models:

● Ford Focus Electric
● Ford Mustang Mach-E

The Ford Focus electric comes with the options of a 23 kWh or a 33.5 kWh battery. The Ford Mustang Mach-E has the choice between a 68 kWh or 88 kWh battery.

Ford has also released one PHEV, the Ford Kuga (2020). The Kuga has a usable battery capacity of 13 kWh.

Ford EV Cables

Buying an electric vehicle is a huge investment, so it doesn’t make sense to invest in poor-quality equipment. Getting high-end equipment such as EV cables for your Ford is recommended.

Ford EVs and PHEVs are compatible with type 2 charging cables. At Smartly, we offer a range of EV cables that are of premium quality such as:

Smartly Type 2 to Type 2 cables

Ford EV Chargers

EV cables are important, but so are premier chargers. Don’t cut corners when it comes to charging equipment. We can provide a selection of high-end chargers. For home charging, we would recommend a single-phase charger such as:

We offer a range of charger solutions for home installation, including:

Easee One Charger 7.4kW Single Phase Charger
Wallbox Pulsar Max 7.4kW Single Phase Charger

While these are excellent chargers to invest in, we also offer an even wider selection to choose from should you be looking for a different brand. You can find out the full selection by clicking here.

Why Should You Choose Us?

Aside from our excellent products, we’ve always put our customers first here at Smartly. This is realised in that we feel an obligation to educate our customers as much as possible in relation to electric vehicles and EV equipment.

That being said, our brilliant selection of products is all manufactured either in the UK or in Europe. We keep it local and only stock the best brands around.

And as a company that is helping to lead the way with electric vehicles, we align our own values with the products we sell. As such, we are a carbon-neutral business and work with One Tree Planted, where we plant 30 trees per month and an additional tree for every order received.

The time it’ll take you to charge your Ford will depend on the model of Ford EV you have as well as the battery pack you chose for your EV.

The Ford Focus Electric will take:
● 15 hours to achieve a full charge using a 3-pin plug
● 9 hours to achieve a full charge using a 3.6kW charger
● 5 hours to achieve a full charge using a 7kW charger
● 5 hours to achieve a full charge using a 22kW charger
● 30 minutes to achieve 80% charge using a 50kW or a 150kW charger

The Ford Mustang Mach-E will take:
● 33 hours to achieve a full charge using a 3-pin plug
● 21 hours to achieve a full charge using a 3.6kW charger
● 11 hours to achieve a full charge using a 7kW charger
● 7 hours to achieve a full charge using a 22kW charger
● 60 minutes to achieve an 80% charge using a 50kW charger
● 30 minutes to achieve an 80% charge using a 150kW charger

The Ford Kuga PHEV will take:
● 7 hours to achieve a full charge using a 3-pin plug
● 4 hours to achieve a full charge using a 3.6kW charger
● 4 hours to achieve a full charge using a 7kW charger
● 4 hours to achieve a full charge using a 22kW charger

The Ford Kuga is not capable of rapid charging.
To charge a Ford Focus Electric in the UK, it costs around 9.34p per mile, and the Ford Focus has a full range of 139 miles on one full charge.
For a Ford Mustang Mach-E, it costs around 8.68p per mile to run, and the Mach-E has a range of 273 miles per full charge.
As PHEVs run with smaller batteries, they tend to be much cheaper to charge. The Ford Kuga PHEV takes an average of £3.63 to go from empty to full.
The battery pack that’s fitted as standard in a Ford Focus Electric will last around 3-5 years, depending on your driving habits and how well maintained the battery is kept.
The Ford Mach-E battery is estimated to last for around 1,500 charge cycles. That equates to around 300,000 to 500,000 miles of range from one battery over the course of its total usage.
