Charging A Volvo EV

When you are charging your Volvo, it’ll depend on what kind of Volvo you have when it comes to overall battery capacity. There are currently two commercially available Volvo EVs that are fully electrically powered:

Single-phase chargers are recommended for home charging. Three-phase chargers are often better suited for commercial or industrial premises as they need a three-phase electric supply. If these don’t quite fit what you’re looking for, we have plenty more electric chargers to choose from. We aim to have a charger that will suit everyone’s needs for their home EV charging setup.

● 80% charge in 25 minutes using a rapid 150 kW charger

The Volvo C40 can achieve:

● A full charge in 38.5 hours using a 2.3 kW charger
● A full charge in 12 hours using a 7.4kW charger
●A full charge in 8.25 hours using a 22kW charger (usually limited to 11kW by the vehicle, also requires a three-phase supply)
● A full charge in 33 minutes using a rapid charger with up to 150kW

As for PHEVs, the S60, S90, V60 (2021), V60 (2016), V90, XC40, XC60 and XC90 can achieve:
● A full charge in 5 hours using a three-pin charger
● A full charge in 3 hours using a 3.6kW charger
● A full charge in 3 hours using a 7.4kW charger
● A full charge in 3 hours using a 22kW charger

Note that PHEVs are not suitable for rapid charging.

For most homes, it will cost around £740 - £900. This is to install everything you’ll need for your Volvo EV.

Your Volvo car can be plugged into a regular outlet with the right adapter; however, it will charge incredibly slowly. A 7kW charger is recommended for home charging.

This will depend on your energy tariff, but to achieve 80% charge for a Volvo XC40, it usually costs around £6.00 – that is around 2.9 pence a mile if you use home charging. For a Volvo C40, the average is around £7.80. Charging a hybrid will cost less money as they run on significantly smaller batteries. For example, the average cost to charge a Volvo V60 (2021) is £2.92.

Yes. Your Volvo car is safe to be charging in any normal weather that the UK experiences, including rain. It is worth noting, however, that colder weather will require slightly longer charging times due to the battery needing to be kept warm during the charging process.
